FINLAND

TAMMI - Helsinki   1956-present Paula Drew - Neiti Etsivä Paula, as Nancy is called in Finland,  goes by the title of "neiti etsivä" which translates to "miss detective." All the titles in the series begin with this moniker. Nancy/Paula is very popular in Finland and new titles were released until just recently. The artwork is original and very sumptuous, though sometimes you see the action from an unusual perspective. Despite the limited number of Finnish readers, Nancy/Paula has been consistently produced in Finland and translations have been available since the 1950s; she still has many fans today. This was not one of the easier languages from which to translate, since there is no similarity to Latin or Germanic roots in Finnish, and they have a fondness for lots of "k"s and umlauts! In the grid below, I have placed the titles in the order of the American series (the Finns do not use a numbering system). Tammi only published titles from the classic series. There is a variety of formats, and mostly the covers use original artwork, although sometimes the U.S. covers are recycled (especially Rudy Nappi's) - mostly this happened on books produced in the 1970s and 1980s.
