PENERBITAN HASRATPELAJAR - Kuala Lumpur- published circa1985 - 1988 Siri Nancy Drew I have only one copy of the Hasratpelajar books, which is shown to the right. Although this book clearly has the words "Nancy Drew" on both the front cover and the spine, our heroine's name does not appear anywhere in the text. Instead, the protaganist appears to be a girl named Salma, accompanied by her friends Zarina and Mei Lin. the action takes place in Kuala Lumpur instead of River Heights. After conversations with a book dealer in Singapore, it has been confirmed that these are nancy Drew books, only the characters names have been changed. There is no mention on the copyright page of any original English title, and the author's name is listed as Zainun Abidin Baharum, rather than our beloved Carolyn Keene. However, there are some clues which seem to indicate that this is a translation of Invisible Intruder. There are some very poorly drawn internals which seem to correspond to scenes from Invisible Intruder, including one where an octopus is strangling a young man (Ned is attacked by an electronic octopus after he and Nancy capsize from their canoe) and one where a spark is landing on Nancy's arm from some fireworks. Additionally, there is a phantom horse, similar to the one shown on the cover illustration.

PENERBITAN FARGOES SDN. BHD. - Kuala Lumpur 2002- published currently Siri Salma Thanks to the exhaustive efforts of Meredith Jaffe, it has been discovered that Nancy Drew mysteries continue to be translated and published in Malaysia. These are a continuation of the previous books, and the heroine continues to be named Salma. Some of the titles have been confirmed by the publisher, others are guesses based on names in the translated text, or illustrations in the book. Simon & Schuster confirms that an agreement was signed to produce Old Album, Black Keys, Scarlet Slipper, Golden Pavilion and Fire Dragon for the Malaysian market. Unfortunately I was not provided the corresponding names of the books in Malay. These are probably amongst those published by this second publisher.
